Commercial and social marketing agency T Media have become one of the first companies in Hull to sign the Mindful Employer Charter as part of an initiative to increase awareness of mental health at work.

Mindful Employer is a voluntary agreement which works to support employers with a positive approach to mental health in the workplace.

The initiative is facilitated in association with National Institute for Mental Health England, part of the Department of Health's Care Services Improvement Partnership and aims to tackle the potential negative effects that ill mental health has on companies and its employees.

The term mental ill health covers harmful levels of stress, depression, anxiety schizophrenia, bi-polar disorder (manic depression), psychosis, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and is often associated with drug and alcohol abuse and eating disorders.

Stress, depression and anxiety are the cause of more working days lost than any other work-related illness.

T Media, based in High Street, Hull, employ thirteen people with skills in design, web development and marketing. The company were introduced to the initiative by the Hull Workplace Mental Health Network as part of the company’s ongoing work with the Care Services Improvement Partnership and Hull Teaching Primary Care Trust.

Managing Director, Chris Middleton said: “By signing the charter we are demonstrating our own commitment to recruiting and supporting people with mental ill health and avoiding harmful levels of stress in our work place.
Clearly this will benefit us all as to get the best from our team we need to be in the right frame of mind.”

T Media intends to use the charter to help them review their policies and practices around mental health.
